President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi delivered a speech at Cairo University on the occasion of Egypt’s celebration of “Africa Day” on May 25, commemorating the establishment of the Organization of African Unity in 1963.
The President affirmed that the occasion embodies the unity of the African continent and the struggle of its peoples for freedom and development, noting that Africa stands on the threshold of a new era of development, driven by its vast potential and the determination of its peoples.
He praised Cairo University’s historic role in disseminating knowledge and contributing to the development of African human. He also stressed the importance of strengthening African solidarity to address global crises and safeguard navigation, trade, and energy and food security.
The President welcomed the African Union’s selection of “Water” as this year’s theme, emphasizing the need to respect international law in managing transboundary rivers in a manner that ensures mutual benefit and sustainable development.
He renewed Egypt’s commitment to supporting the unity and stability of African countries and its readiness to continue serving as an active development partner. He also announced that Egypt would host the Eighth African Union Coordination Summit in June 2026 to discuss regional integration and the implementation of Agenda 2063.
