About Department:
Geography Department is one of the departments within the Institute, due to its important and effective role in focusing on the scientific and academic rooting of the issues and problems of the African continent, in addition to the comprehensiveness and diversity it provides in the specialties related to the African issues, whether with regard to aspects of physical or human geography.

Leadership and Distinction in the field of education and scientific research in modern geographical knowledge, techniques and applications within the continent of Africa in general and the Nile Basin countries in particular.
Mission:
Geography Department at the Institute is concerned with studying the natural and human geographical phenomena in the continent of Africa; To reveal its properties and spatial distributions, understanding the changes that occur to it, and anticipate its future picture. The department is keen on preparing qualified and field-trained African geographic competencies that contribute to achieving the goals of sustainable development plans and programs within the continent. The department also is concerned on preparing qualified and field-trained African geographic cadres that Contribute in achieving the goals of sustainable development plans and programs inside the continent. The department also keeps pace with modern scientific and technical developments, conducting research, studies, scientific consultations and training courses to expand the fields of geographical thought and its applications, understanding the contemporary African problems, and working on solving them.
